What is the difference between profit and profit margin?

Profit is the money you actually keep, in pounds, after every cost comes out. Profit margin is that same profit written as a percentage of the sale price. £5 profit on a £25 sale is a 20% margin. Profit tells you how much; margin tells you how hard each pound is working.

Do marketplace fees include VAT?

On most UK marketplaces the fees shown are before VAT, and 20% VAT is added on top of the fee. If you are VAT-registered you can usually reclaim it, so this calculator shows the fee itself. Always confirm on the platform's own fee page for high-value items.
